Connecting Through Cars: A Tribute to My Dad
My dad was all about cars, especially his three 1965 Ford Mustangs that he loved like crazy. Growing up, I could totally see how much he adored those classic rides. But as time went on, he ran out of space and the ability to keep them in shape, so they ended up parked and rusting away. I was promised I'd inherit those iconic cars, but watching the rust take over really crushed that dream.
Chasing Memories: A Journey to the Bonneville Salt Flats
Even though the Mustangs were a lost cause, I still wanted to feel close to my dad. In 2015, I planned a trip to the Bonneville Salt Flats to check out the World Finals with him, which is a big deal for car lovers. But, of course, the salt conditions weren't right, and the event got canceled. That just made me want to honor my dad's memory even more.
A Mission of Remembrance
Sadly, my dad passed away a few years back after fighting cancer like a champ, and I never got to take him to the Salt Flats. Losing him pushed me to finally make that trip in his honor. I wanted to see firsthand how much effort goes into organizing such events, especially when the conditions are tough, and racers are battling for every inch in their quest for crazy speed records. The sights, the smells, the hardship, the extremes, and especially the noise as the engines fired and roared.
Capturing the Experience
Luckily, the views at the Salt Flats were absolutely stunning—like something out of a dream, perfect for snapping photos. This trip turned into not just a tribute to my dad but also a celebration of the car culture he loved so much.
Hope you enjoy the memories and the beauty of this one-of-a-kind experience!
